Launched in June 2009, theKube – the world’s smallest mp3 player and a Singapore innovation – can now be found in countries afar as Russia and Brazil to Indonesia and Vietnam.
Sales are expected to reach US$8 million by the end of next year, with the expansion into new markets.
Why would an mp3 player primarily sold online and at 7-11 outlets do as well as theKube does?
Managing Director Sem Chong puts it down to how overseas companies recognise a Singapore brand as a good business partner. Markets such as Indonesia, Russia and Mexico are still large and developing. The use of smartphones and 3G networks are still not prevalent. And, most of all, theKube boasts of a cool design and provides good audio quality – all packaged into a thumb-sized mp3 player!
